Despite jumping out to a two-run lead, Chester Bird allowed 10 runs over the game's final three innings in a 12-3 season-opening loss to Bloomington Blue.
The Birds scored twice in the bottom of the second inning, getting one run when Robby Sutherland hit a sacrifice fly to plate Gabe MacDonald and Bobby Papetti scored on Grant Besse's double.
Bloomington responded with two runs in the top of the third and added three runs in the fifth inning.
Chester Bird had a chance to come back when Spencer Shaver's single drove home Besse from second base. However, Bloomington got a double play to end the inning when Shaver and Jimmy Heck were thrown out at second base and third base, respectively.
Besse had a double and a single, finishing the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and one run batted in.
The Birds return to action Friday, at 6 p.m., when they host another South Hennepin League game by taking on Hopkins at BSM Field.
