The South Hennepin League named Joe Melles as Chester Bird's most valuable player for the 2011 season.
The SHL chooses an MVP for each of the league's 10 teams along with a league pitcher of the year and the Kent Hrbek Player of the Year award.
Melles was selected after batting .333 on the summer and leading The Birds with 19 runs batted in and a .515 on-base percentage, as he drew 27 walks in 26 games.
Batting third in the Chester Bird lineup in all 26 of his appearances, Melles had nine doubles, a triple and a home run among his 23 hits, slugging .536.
The Birds finished the 2011 campaign with a 12-16 record.
